On Monday, September 27th, the class visited the Yeargin Art Museum. This is a special museum for several reasons. We are one of the only districts in the United States to have their own museum. Altharetta Yeargin was an art teacher in SBISD. She liked to travel, and she did this extensively. Oftentimes she brought back various pieces of art from the places she visited, and later in her life, she decided to donate these pieces to SBISD. Some items include a painting by Grandma Moses, black pottery by Native American Maria Martinez, quilts, carved tusks, and archeological treasures. The museum is located on the Westchester Campus, and they offer family activites throughout the year. You can check their schedule of events by clicking here.
Here is a photostory of our visit to the art room, where we created black pots on paper, inspired by the potter Maria Martinez.
